Our story
We are two friends on a mission to empower Hawaii's youth through education. We were fortunate to have education role models that gave us an appreciation for the process of learning. We started Keiki Coders because we're passionate about sharing this love of learning and coding with others.
Honolulu, Oʻahu
1The beginning
Sundays, 2:30 to 4:00 PM, Kapiʻolani Park, from March 2023
Before there were classrooms, there was a patch of grass. We ran free "Coding in the Park" sessions on Sunday afternoons, open to any keiki who wanted to try.
"We at Keiki Coders believe coding is a fundamental skill of the future. As a result, we want to make sure we provide opportunities to kids in Hawaii to learn it."
2The first summer
July 10 to 21, 2023, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM
The park sessions turned into our first summer program: two full weeks at Kalani High School, and weekend workshops for kids around 8 to 12.
Having held various roles across high-growth technology and financial firms, we understand the importance of coding in today's digital world. We believe that by teaching children how to code, we can empower them to create, innovate and solve the problems of tomorrow.
3Growing by word of mouth
We have designed a fun, interactive, and engaging program tailored to different levels of coding knowledge. Our goal is to leave a lasting positive impact on Hawaii's education system by providing a safe and inclusive environment for children to thrive.
Schools asked us to come to them. Today our classes run after school on their own campuses, so keiki can walk from their last bell straight into coding, robotics, VR and design.

The two friends
Both grew up with teachers who made learning feel like an adventure. Keiki Coders is their way of passing that on.
Founder
Peter received his MBA degree from Columbia Business School. Before starting Keiki Coders, Peter worked at Amazon on their strategic investments and mergers and acquisitions team. He has also held roles in investment banking and at high growth start-ups. He is incredibly eager to work with the youth to develop their skills.
Founder
Stephen graduated from Harvard in 2019 with a degree in economics and has worked across various industries at L'Oreal, The RealReal, and Instacart. He enjoys teaching and is also the head coach of the boys water polo program at ʻIolani High School. He is excited to help inspire the next generation of tech leaders.
